  • With Gratitude

    We found this quote and thought it was perfect for the upcoming holiday and for every day.

    “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow. ”
    Melodie Beattie – motivational author

    This Thanksgiving and every day we are more than thankful for our wonderful clients and the trust they have placed in us. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

    Giving Ideas for the Holidays and Beyond: Food Banks

    As we approach the “season of giving,” we wanted to spotlight one of our clients, Mark Smith, who selflessly helped to create the Francis Street Food Pantry here in Jackson back in 2008.

    Mark was recently featured in a National AARP publication  (http://www.aarp.org/giving-back/charitable-giving/info-10-2010/you_can_help_feed_a_neighbor.html) highlighting the growing need for food pantries in Michigan, one of the hardest hit states in the country. Jackson is certainly no exception to this, as Mark stated the families in need have grown 500% in just the last two years.

    It is quite obvious that the Francis Street Food Pantry as well as pantries around Michigan and the country are in need of our help, all year round. To support the efforts of the Francis Street Food Pantry, donations may be sent to: Francis Street Pantry, 606 S. Wisner, Jackson, MI 49203.
    For more information about how you can help your local food bank, visit this helpful article on the ten donations that food banks need most: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/CollegeAndFamily/RaiseKids/10-donations-food-banks-need-most.aspx.

    We want to thank Mark for his noble actions for our Jackson community; it is people like him that make our community so great. We are honored to have him in our family!

    Pause To Remember Those Who Have Served

    On this Veteran’s Day, we want to take some time out of our normal day to send a warm thank you to those who put their lives on the line for our country. We found a poem that we would like to dedicate to our veterans and those who are still currently fighting for our freedom and values. If you know someone who might like this, please feel free to pass it along to them.

    The Things That Make a Soldier Great

    The things that make a soldier great and send him out to die,
    To face the flaming cannon’s mouth nor ever question why,
    Are lilacs by a little porch, the row of tulips red,
    The peonies and pansies, too, the old petunia bed,
    The grass plot where his children play, the roses on the wall:
    ‘Tis these that make a soldier great.
    He’s fighting for them all.

    ‘Tis not the pomp and pride of kings that make a soldier brave;
    ‘Tis not allegiance to the flag that over him may wave;
    For soldiers never fight so well on land or on the foam
    As when behind the cause they see the little place called home.
    Endanger but that humble street whereon his children run,
    You make a soldier of the man who never bore a gun.
    What is it through the battle smoke the valiant soldier sees?

    The little garden far away, the budding apple trees,
    The little patch of ground back there, the children at their play,
    Perhaps a tiny mound behind the simple church of gray.
    The golden thread of courage isn’t linked to castle dome
    But to the spot, where’er it be — the humblest spot called home.
    And now the lilacs bud again and all is lovely there
    And homesick soldiers far away know spring is in the air;
    The tulips come to bloom again, the grass once more is green,
    And every man can see the spot where all his joys have been.

    He sees his children smile at him, he hears the bugle call,
    And only death can stop him now — he’s fighting for them all.
