Our Scholarship Program
Richmond Brothers is honored to be able to provide funding for scholarships awarded through the Jackson College Foundation. Below are the stories of two motivated individuals who were able to realize their dreams of an education because of the scholarships they received from Richmond Brothers.
Shane knew he wanted to be a police officer as early as the second grade. But when he graduated from Hudson High School in 2006, he feared the costs of college would hold him back. Scholarship aid from Jackson College was a welcome gift. “The scholarships I received were life-changing,” Shane says. “Without them, I couldn’t achieve my career goals.”
Not only did Shane graduate from Jackson College (formerly known as Jackson Community College), he transferred to Siena Heights University to major in criminal justice and earn his bachelor’s degree. Now, Shane is well on his way to achieving his career aspirations. “If I can do it, so can others, with scholarship aid and the generosity of people who make that possible. I hope that telling others about my experience will just be the beginning of my giving back.”
Kim’s college plans were put on hold when his grandfather—owner of the family’s Chinese restaurant on Long Island—died. Kim had to step in and help run the business, which led to a long career in culinary arts.
In 1995, Kim took a job in food sales and moved his wife and three children to Michigan. But the pressures of family, career, and two jobs took their toll on his health and he was forced to stop working. After many months in and out of hospitals, Kim sought a new career in the medical field and returned to college at JCC. He graduated with a degree in radiography—an accomplishment that would have been impossible if not for the first-generation scholarship he received. Kim’s newfound passion in the medical field may just be taking off—he’s now considering continuing his education in nuclear medicine.
